Founded in 1996 in the city of Gitega, Burundi, MIPAREC is a non-profit organization working for peace and reconciliation in the Great Lakes region of East Africa.

Its members work to help displaced persons, migrants, victims of war, disease and poverty.

MIPAREC organizes workshops and seminars with local authorities, associations, schools and community organizations to promote peace and sustainable development. Some activities include:

• mediation of conflicts between property owners,
• education on peaceful conflict resolution,
• storytelling and theater workshops,
• mariage couseling,
• therapy for victims of conjugal violence
